Contribution of Nepal Elderly and Disabled Women’s Service Center (WODEC-Nepal) in preservation and reconstruction of historical Bhimsen Thapa Sattal.

Bhimsen Thapa Sattal Gokerneshwar Municipality ward no. 4 is a 300 year old historical and archeological heritage. Located on the banks of Bagmati river in the south direction from Gokerneshwar Municipality ward no 4, this historical sattal was known as a seto sattal in the local language. Homeless priest used to live in this palace-shaped sattal the historical Ganesh temple is also located on the uppor direction of this Sattal. In 2045 writer Ramesh Vikal published an article in Gorkhapatra and the fact that the historic sattal built by first prime minister and National hero Bhhimsen Thapa was dilapidated and damaged become public.

In the year 2044 when Marichman singh was the prime Minister the 3 Ropani 9 annas land on which this building is located was registered in the name of Raj Guthi. To protect the historical property of Gokerneshwar due to the neglect of the locals the activist Ramesh Dhungana in 2058 he established the Nepal Elderly and Disabled Women’s Service Center. On his own initiative in the year 2060 during the search for public land in connection with the construction of an old age home the historical building sattal which was built 300 years ago by National hero Bhimsen Thapa and is currently in a dilapidated, broken, damaged sattal was reconstructed and restored, protecting that building with the aim of providing service and support to the elderly and disabled women. Consent and permission were obtained from the Department of archaeology the agency that granted approval including the map of ownership holder Guthi Sasthan and historical building buildings.

Out of the estimated cost of 1 crore 45 lakh, only 1 crore and 10 lakh has been received through the coordination of Dutch citizen and sponsere treck Nepal managing director Nepal Mr. Tendi Sherpa, who are in contact with the organization and no support has been received from other donors, and even the Nepal Government has not take any interest and concrn in this matter. As per the owner instsructions of the Guthi sansthan and the department of archaeology which says that according to the historical standards the building cannot be conducted without the completion of the construction work.

For the reconstruction and protection of this historical site, we sincerely appeal to department of archeology, Guthi Sasthan, local government, State government, federal government, local citizens and donors.

Due to the lack of proper development of an inclusive and equitable society in Nepal, the elderly, disabled, and marginalized women are still deprived of basic needs, health services, and self-reliance opportunities. Realizing this situation, a group of committed youth has established the Nepal Old And Disabled Women Welfare Center with the aim of ensuring the access of the elderly, disabled, and women to basic services and rights.

The center has been actively working with various social organizations, local and provincial governments, and other stakeholders to address the issues of these communities. It operates with the vision of creating a self-reliant, empowered, and dignified life for elderly citizens and persons with disabilities, especially women, by enhancing their capacity and ensuring their rights to live independently and with respect in society.
